SYRACUSE, NY – The Carrier Dome in Syracuse is being redesigned with a new fixed roof and air conditioning.
The university’s board of trustees has approved $ 118 million for improvements to the dome, the school said on Monday. The money will also be used for a vertically hanging display board, state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems, and improved Internet access. More than $ 6 million will be used to make the facility more accessible to the disabled.
Construction work will begin this summer and the first phase should be completed in autumn 2020. The air conditioning and other improvements are expected to be completed two years later.
Football, basketball and lacrosse play times are not affected by the work that is advertised.
The air-assisted roof Carrier Dome opened in 1980 and cost $ 25.6 million.
