Cedar Falls school board bids on kitchen renovations, roofing and masonry repairs well below estimates | Education News

CEDAR FALLS – Kitchen renovations, roofing projects, and masonry repairs approved Monday by the Education Council fell well below estimates.

Waterloo-based Failor-Hurley Construction won a $ 308,400 contract for construction at Lincoln and Southdale elementary schools. Boelter LLC of Minnesota will supply equipment as part of its $ 356,854 offering.

Overall, the contracts total $ 665,254, which is about $ 50,000 below the estimate of $ 715,580. Both companies were the lowest of two bids for the projects.

Waterloo-based Service Roofing Co. received $ 133,000 for Orchard Hill Elementary School and $ 14,982 for other district roof repairs. Restoration Services of Waterloo won a $ 42,060 contract to repair masonry at Southdale Elementary School and the district administrative center.

The total cost of the projects of $ 190,042 was nearly $ 92,000 below the estimate of $ 281,775. Two contractors vied for the roofing work, while three submitted bids for the masonry.

The roofing and masonry work is part of the ongoing maintenance of the Cedar Falls Community Schools buildings. The ongoing renovations to the district schools will decentralize food preparation as an alternative to transporting groceries from high school or Peet Junior High.

All projects will be completed this summer with funds from the disposal of physical facilities and equipment from the district.
