Family owned and operated Central Civil Construction is pleased to announce its new President Robert “Bob” T. Murphy, PE, CGC. This is the first time a non-family member has been in a C-suite position. Richard Baer will now become Chairman and Bob Baer will be CEO. Murphy will report directly to both of them.

Murphy, who brings nearly 40 years of experience in the construction industry, specializes in the management and executive administration of public works and transportation construction. After graduating from New Jersey and his early years in road and utility construction, Murphy moved to Florida in 1985 as an engineering coordinator for Capeletti Bros. and quickly advanced to vice president and chief operating officer. He has also held executive positions for other heavy construction companies valued at over $ 100 million in South Florida. Most recently, he was Regional Director for Daniel O’Connell’s Sons, specializing in WWTP work for the Miami-Dade County’s WASD Consent Decret projects.

“After our father passed away last year, we thought about how we could stay true to his vision while taking Central Civil to the next level,” said Bob Baer, CEO of Central Civil Construction. “We looked for Bob for his proven leadership role in the Marquis South Florida construction companies, many of which were family businesses like ours, knowing he would be a good fit as part of our growth strategy.”

Projects Murphy has managed include three contracts in the former Joe Robbie Stadium (now Hard Rock Stadium) and most importantly the three-story exchange with the Florida

Turnpike.

Other significant projects include two 13-mile I-95 HOV track projects for the Florida Department of Transportation.

“I look forward to working with both generations of the Bär family and the entire Central Civil team. We are well positioned and ready to continue taking on complex and challenging construction projects, ”said Murphy.

Murphy earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Villanova University and was licensed as a professional engineer in the state of Florida in 1988. He is also a certified general contractor, a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and a member of the Dispute Settlement Foundation.

Central Civil Construction specializes in complex projects including: deep excavation, underground utility works, heavy highway construction, earthworks, land development and civil engineering projects. The company has been instrumental in developing local innovative projects including site preparation for the Royal Caribbean Terminal A in PortMiami, the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, the Underline and Marlins Park.
