CLAYTON, Mo-Carolyn Crump has been with UPS for 23 years, and six of them were routed in Clayton. Over those years, the people she supplies have started calling their families and they all have different reasons as to why they love them.
“We all have their cell phone number,” said Jason Lehtman. “She’s on top and when it rains she wraps it in plastic.
A few weeks ago, Carolyn Crump found out that Lehtman had a connection with a roofing company. In passing, she mentioned that she would soon need a new roof because her 30-year-old roof was leaking. Lehtman was able to make her an offer and she said she can do it in about 6 months.
Little did she know Lehtman had an idea. He started a GoFundMe to raise enough money to give Crump a new roof. But the church got together and doubled the money that was needed for a new roof.
“She’s just nice, she’s humble. I don’t think she even realizes the impact she has on people. She always smiles,” said Christie Pickrell, who helped organize the surprise.
On Friday afternoon, with her work on board with the surprise, she was supposed to pick up a package from home that wasn’t really there. When she got there, she was blindfolded and went to Concordia Park. There she was met with her daughter and dozens of others.
So many people with so many stories and reasons that they love their delivery driver.
“The day before we had to park our dog, I found her in the foyer and said goodbye to the dog, and that’s where you are like wow,” Lehtman said. “My kid is getting a bike for Christmas this year … and called and said should I wait to deliver this, or can I deliver this now, do I have to hide it, or are we good?”
They surprised her with the new roof and the extra money that was left over.
“I’m really surprised,” said Carolyn Crump. “I love this route, I love my job, I love coming to work, I don’t mind work, it’s great and that’s why … that’s why I’m going to retire on this route, and the only reason I do have a route is because you shop online. “
Humans aren’t the only ones they love, many dogs have surprised them too. For her furry friends, she always has treats with her when deliveries are made.
“I love the dogs, I love handing out treats,” said Carolyn Crump. “I have an auto ship through Chewy.”
