Funds needed to help build new roof over cats’ heads at Chilliwack animal shelter – Chilliwack Progress
An animal shelter in Chilliwack is seeking help from the public to get a new roof over the furry heads of its rescued cats.
Chilliwack Animal Safe Haven’s roof needs partial replacement, but the bill for that is out of its price range. They have since set up a GoFundMe to raise funds for the cause.
“We have had problems with the roof for some time. We received an offer for this work and the price is far higher than we can afford, ”wrote Kristin Belyea, the organizer of the GoFundMe campaign. “To keep our cats clean and dry, this work needs to be done.”
Due to COVID-19, much of the donation money that normally goes to the shelter is simply not there. You applied for a grant to cover roof costs, but did not receive these funds successfully.
“The past year has been difficult for everyone, including Chilliwack Animal Safe Haven. Our usual fundraising campaigns have been suspended due to the pandemic. We rely so much on these donations. “
The GoFundMe was launched on March 6th with the aim of raising $ 15,000. By March 24, they had managed to raise nearly $ 2,500.
Chilliwack Animal Safe Haven adopted more than 200 cats last year, a record number for the shelter, which opened in 2003.
“Please help us achieve our goal of keeping a roof over the kittens’ heads. Any amount will make a difference, ”said Belyea.
