How do I clean algae off my roof?

Danny Lipford: Steven wants to know: “How do I clean algae from my roof?”

Even with a relatively new roof like this, it won’t be long before the dark stains of algae make it look really bad. And it only gets worse as you get older. But here’s what you can do to clean it up a little.

Use an oxygen-based cleaner, usually powdered, and mix it with water in a 5 gallon bucket. Be sure to check the manufacturer’s instructions for the exact amount. Then lightly dampen your roof and then use a hard-bristled brush to apply the cleaner. Let it sit there for about 15 minutes and do the job for you, then blow it off with a garden hose. And your roof will look better for much longer.

But if your roof is this steep I would recommend that you rely on a professional roof cleaner who is used to this type of situation.
