The Iowa Western Community College Board of Trustees made McKinnis Roofing an offer to replace the Ashley Hall roof for $ 273,000.

The bids for the project ranged from $ 273,000 to $ 352,000, with McKinnis submitting the lowest bid exceeding the estimate of $ 300,000.

“The roof that we had repairs on needs to be replaced,” said Eddie Holtz, Vice President of Finance.

The board approved refinancing of dormitory refund bonds from the construction of the housing units on the east side of campus and General Obligation School bonds from the construction of Kinney Hall for a total of $ 540,000 over 12 years, Holtz said. It also cleared the initiation of a process to seek offers to refinance additional bonds to reimburse dormitory receipts.

Iowa Western will host the National Junior College Athletic Association Wrestling Championships at the Mid-America Center on Wednesday and Thursday. The college expects 420 wrestlers and all of their fans, said President Dan Kinney.

“Think about the impact that will have on our community!” he said.

The Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, Dr. John Marshall asked if college officials could report the estimated community impact to the Board of Directors at its next meeting. Kinney said he would speak to the Council Bluffs Area Chamber of Commerce and the Convention & Visitors Bureau after the tournament for some information.
