Steve John

METAIRIE, LA – On October 27, the suspect knocked on the 86-year-old victim’s door and offered his services to repair storm damage and inspect the roof of her apartment.

At this point, 34 year old Steve John from Metairie identified himself as a local contractor named “Joe Pizzo” from “Expert Roofing and Paving” who claimed to be licensed and insured.

John took cash and a check for $ 2,000 from the victim to be used for supplies and labor and promised to return to complete the work.

The victim’s neighbor learned of the agreement and spoke to the victim about the transaction.

The neighbor found that the victim had no damage to her home that needed to be repaired.

The next day, John returned and was confronted by the neighbor about the lack of harm and legitimacy in his business.

John did not have any supplies with him to carry out a roof repair, although he was supposedly in the residence for the purpose.

After the confrontation, John fled the place. Subsequent reviews of the business information and phone number of the offer written for the victim did not result in a legitimate deal.

John has a previous contractor fraud conviction starting January this year. An arrest warrant has been issued against John for the charges listed. He was found and arrested at his apartment on the 2300 block of Lemon Street in Metairie.

John was booked with exploitation of frail home fraud and narcotics possession.

Detectives believe there may have been other residents, especially the elderly, who may have been betrayed by John.

Anyone with information about this case or with concerns about being a victim of John is asked to call Detective Brad Stanifer at 504-364-5300.
