ABBEVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) – Dave and Mary Clark say storms usually find a way to bypass their Abbeville home, but not this time.
“I look out the window when the hail started and all of a sudden the wind started to whip and you couldn’t even see yourself at the front door,” Mary said to FOX Carolina.
The couple cleaned up all Tuesday and piled heaps of debris on their lawn.
“The biggest is this big tree outback … and it’s huge,” said Dave.
No trees have fallen on their house, but they have roof damage from this hailstorm. Fortunately, help arrived on Tuesday morning.
“We were able to help a number of homeowners today,” said Brad Barron, COO of Cornerstone Construction at Travelers Rest. “I think at least a half dozen or more homes signed up with us,” he added.
Barron says their crews were in Abbeville on Tuesday, up to 20-25 workers at a time, helping people get back on their feet with inspections and assessments.
“We have processes and systems in place to make it easier for you to understand when you work with you,” he said.
Barron says it can be tough for couples like the Clarks trying to file a lawsuit. He adds: The first step at insurance companies can be the most difficult.
“You’d rather waste our time than your time,” said Roofer up there to look at? ‘”
We asked if he had any helpful tips on what to look out for throughout the process. He says at the end of the day it’s all about your due diligence.
“As a homeowner and as a policyholder, you are your best lawyer,” he said. ‘You are still a very important part of the process. “
Barron says the process of getting things done thoroughly can sometimes take up to six months or even a year, so patience is key.
Another thing to look out for: a roofing company that says it covers your deductible. He says this could lead to you getting scammed in the long run, but more importantly, it’s actually insurance fraud – so be careful.
