Beginning March 15, a Lafayette regulation mandates the use of high-impact Class 4 asphalt shingles for all new and major roof repairs. a requirement that supports the city’s sustainability and waste goals by minimizing construction waste from damaged shingles.
The city’s website states that these shingles are better able to withstand damage from 2-inch diameter hail and should provide long-term savings for homeowners through reduced deductibles on insurance.
Houses with hail damage that occurred on or before July 31, 2019 and can provide documentation are exempt.
