DENVER, CO – July 22, 2021 – NWiR is pleased to announce an agreement with the National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) to support one another in advancing the roofing industry. NWiR will provide information about NCCER and its offerings to the board of directors and also to NWiR council leaders from across the country and encourage council leaders to work with their local accredited organizations and training centers. NCCER will invite NWiR members to contribute to its Build Your Future blog, which will provide its audience with insight and information about careers in the roofing trade.
“We know representation is important when talking to people about why roofers are such a great industry, and it’s especially important when trying to recruit traditionally underrepresented populations,” said Brenna Driver, Area Sales Manager, Owens Corning; and member of the NWiR Board of Directors and Chairman of the Industry Recruitment Committee. “That’s why we’re also starting a photo project called“ Women on the Roof ”to increase the content of the NWiR members who work on the roof, on the construction site and in their area and to make these photos available to the NCCER and others interested organizations. ”
In addition, NWiR will support the NCCER and other organizations by participating in the nationwide Careers in Construction Month (CICM), a campaign that takes place every October to raise public awareness of construction professions, inspire young skilled craftsmen and raise awareness affect a career in construction. NCCER recently partnered with the National Roofing Contractors Association to produce the second edition of the NCCER Roofing Level 1 curriculum. The NRCA and NCCER partnership builds consumer confidence that certified roofing industry professionals have the knowledge and skills to do their job well. This roofer curriculum will also pave the way for NWiR local and regional councils to develop a relationship with their local NCCER training center.
“We look forward to working with NWiR to raise awareness of the roofing industry as a career option, and especially to reach out to women to share available education, credentials and a fulfilling career path.” – Holly Mathis, BYF Manager, NCCER.
