Prince Harry and Meghan Markle donate new roof to damaged women’s shelter

TAMPA (WFLA) – Prince Harry and Meghan Markle donate a new roof to a Texas women’s shelter damaged by last week’s deadly storm.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s money came as a surprise to the Genesis Women’s Shelter in Dallas, which said the money would replace the organization’s temporary shelter roof and other “immediate needs” to help women and children facing domestic violence flee, continue to support.

Amy Norton, the shelter’s senior director of fund development, told CNN the shelter’s roof collapsed, pipes burst and furniture was destroyed, but luckily no one was injured.

Millions of Americans lost electricity and water after a deadly freezer record began last week.

President Joe Biden declared emergencies for states hit by the storm, including Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma.

At least 69 deaths in the United States have been attributed to the unusual weather explosion.
