Videos of water dripping from the ceiling throughout Renel Francois’ townhouse told the story the family had to deal with while they waited several months for their new roof to be installed.
“I had to make sure that this is something that you can’t ignore,” Francois said.
The Pembroke Pines man recorded the videos over several weeks and said he sent them to his contact at The Home Depot in hopes of speeding up a process that began in September 2017 when he signed a $ 8,400 contract for signed a new umbrella. According to the document, the project should start in November of the same year.
But months later, Francois said he was still waiting for the project to start while the condition in his house grew more urgent, with water coming in every time it rained. He said he asked The Home Depot for responses and received various reasons for the delay.
“They work on the plumbers, some plumbers had bigger projects, they’re late – from excuses to the next one, you know the weather,” he said.
In September, almost a year after signing the deal, Francois saw stories of how NBC 6 Responds is helping consumers.
“I thought, wow, I can relate,” he said.
He says he said to his wife, “Let’s see if we can get in touch.”
NBC 6 Responds then contacted the company about the delay in October.
“The job was done within three weeks,” said Francois.
In a statement, a company spokesperson said the 2017 storms “… created intense demand for roofs and labor that is not unique to The Home Depot. We apologize for the delays Mr. Francois has faced in the face of the challenges The industry was faced. We completed the job as quickly as possible. We always try to communicate the project timelines clearly and appreciate the opportunity to get them right. “
Francois had filed a lawsuit with the company in hopes of helping them pay more than $ 25,000 in damages, which he said had occurred due to the delay. This request was initially rejected, but later reopened and clarified. He can’t tell us how much he was given, but says it helped him pay for some of the repairs he needed.
Francois said he was grateful to finally have his new roof and be able to focus on getting the inside of his house back in order.
