LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – On Sunday there was still a lot of snow almost a week after the second largest snowfall in Lincoln. This is something a local roofing company said to keep them busy. And when all the snow starts to melt, it can cause problems with water getting into homes. A local roofing expert wants people to know what they can do to prevent this from happening.
One snow rake and five minutes could save you potentially hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars in repairs.
“Any type of snow and ice sitting on your roof creates problems,” said Brad Ebeling, BB Roofing Advisor.
With so much snow, Ebeling said it was more important than ever to get it off the roof.
“It causes ice and water, and it actually causes leaks in your house,” Ebeling said.
Although BB Roofing doesn’t do it themselves, they want to teach others how to do it so they don’t get any harm.
“If your box stores like Menards, Home Depot have roof rakes, a customer can easily pull them off himself,” said Brad Ebeling, roofing consultant.
All you have to do is make sure you clear three feet of snow from the roof edge. This should at least prevent some damage.
Ebeling said they are seeing people with more damage than ever in this storm. When that is added on, it could cost a person anywhere from $ 500 to a few thousand dollars.
