The Roofing Alliance, the foundation of the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA), announced the first and second place winners for the Roofing Alliance’s 7th annual student competition – Clemson University and Colorado State University, respectively. The winning teams and the best individual moderators were honored in a virtual award ceremony on April 16.

The first place award was awarded to Clemson University for their outstanding written and oral presentations on the team’s proposal package at the Las Vegas Raiders exercise facility, which is part of the new Intermountain Healthcare Performance Center in Henderson, Nevada. The team receives an LB Conway scholarship of $ 5,000 for their school. The team consisted of team captain Luke Skertich and his teammates Declan Fay, Allison O’Toole, Hannah Smith and deputy team Hendrix Smith. Allison O’Toole won first place for Best Individual Presenter. The faculty trainer at Clemson University is Dhaval Gajjar.

The runner-up winning team was Colorado State University, which will receive a $ 2,500 Fred Good Scholarship for their school. The CSU team was led by team captain Joshua Houser with his team of Kendall Carter, Jacob Schneider, Mackenzie Voshage and deputy team member Terry Copperman. This year’s competition challenged four university-level construction management teams, including:

  • Clemson University, Clemson, South Carolina
  • Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado
  • Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas
  • University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida

“They competed through written and oral presentations about their umbrella knowledge, project management skills, and presentation skills. The teams examined the project, reviewed the plans and specifications, and put together a full estimate and a qualified package proposal, which was presented to a committee of judges from the Roofing Alliance, ”said Allen Lancaster, current student competition chair and Metalcrafts A vice president Tecta America Co., Savannah, Ga. ”The oral presentations and award ceremony can be viewed on the Roofing Alliance YouTube channel. We are proud to share this with the roofing industry. ”

The teams were tasked with submitting a qualified package offer for a new roof system in the Raiders exercise facility, which is part of the new Intermountain Healthcare Performance Center in Henderson, Nevada. In collaboration with Dennis Roway, founder of the student competition from Commercial Roofers Inc. of Las Vegas, the Roofing Alliance student competition committee prepared the package for the schools. The project was originally reconsidered by Commercial Roofers Inc.
