Roofing worker killed, another injured after restaurant fire in St. Catharines, Ont.

NS. CATHERES, ONT. – One man is dead and another is in critical condition following a fire in a restaurant in St. Catharines, Ontario.

Niagara police said the fire broke out at around 4:15 p.m. on Saturday at Ma Chinese Cuisine restaurant on Geneva Street.

They said officials arrived and found two men in critical condition who were described as employees of a roofing company who were working in the restaurant at the time.

A 46-year-old man from Toronto later died while a 32-year-old man from Markham, Ontario was in hospital.

According to police, the restaurant was open at the time of the fire, but everyone inside was safely evacuated and there were no other injuries.

The fire is still being investigated by the Niagara Police Department, the Ontario Department of Labor and the provincial fire chief’s office.
