You probably grew up with the saying, “If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it.” But what about preventive measures? Floridians know better than anyone that preventive measures are often needed. We put sunscreen on our skin and spend months preparing for hurricanes that may never occur.
If you are a homeowner, you should also consider preventive measures when it comes to the roof over your head. Many people wait until their roof is leaking to make changes. However, roof repairs and replacements can change the appearance of your home and provide security that you may not have realized you were missing. If you are reading this and think it’s time to get a new roof, G&G Roofing Inc. can be the team to help you.
Ray Smith, founder and owner of G&G Roofing, started the business with his wife Kristy in 2002. “We took it and ran with it,” said Smith of his dream of starting a business. “We never stop running.” The company offers roofing services for residential, commercial and industrial roofs.
According to Smith, a typical roof needs repairs after 20 years, and the warning signs on the roof may vary depending on the weather. In Florida, we experience many thunderstorms, hurricanes and, more recently, hailstorms. Leaks are an obvious warning sign that roof repairs are needed and the number one reason homeowners try to replace a roof. However, the roof could have been updated years earlier. In addition to leaks, there may be loss of granules, stones from shingle roofs, and other signs of breakage. So if you run into any of these issues, or think your roof is nearing its lifespan, you should seek advice from an expert.
Smith said if you hire a roofing company you should check that they are licensed and insured, and do general research to see what their reputation is like. “Reputation is always best, especially today with the internet, social media, reviews, and Angie’s list [and] Google, ”said Smith. “There’s so much stuff in there.” Smith previously said the only thing to do is check with friends for recommendations. Now you can do your own research and find the best solution.
When Smith spoke about his company, he emphasized the importance of always doing the best job and always providing quality service to customers. He says that for him it’s not about doing more business, it’s about taking care of everyone while delivering quality service. While storms can lead to more business, it is even more important for Smith to have a reputation for providing quality service. “We were who we were before the storm work came and we will be who we are after the storm work,” said Smith of providing quality repairs and renovations with or without a harsh weather season. Before the hurricane season and other extreme weather disasters, people asked more questions about the company’s records and reputation, almost like an interview, according to Smith. He said they would ask things like, “How long have you been in business, what are your warranties, do you have any references,” etc. “You get into the storms and none of it matters,” Smith said. “It’s ‘How fast can you do it?’ “How soon can you get on it?” When a storm hits for many customers, it’s more about getting the job done as quickly as possible than checking the company’s records and reputation. Family safety under one roof overhead becomes priority number one.
When asked about the hardest part of his job, he said, “There is no hardest part because I love my job and I wouldn’t change my job for anything.”
“Good or bad, 10 times out of 10 we’ll always do what’s right,” said Smith of why people should choose G&G. Smith said he has two families: the family he goes home to and the family he works with.
