SPRI to Revise and Re-Canvass Wind Design Standard for Vegetative Roof Systems

SPRI, the association representing sheet membrane and component suppliers to the commercial roofing industry, is revising and reviewing an important technical document for re-approval as American National Standards. In accordance with SPRI’s ANSI-approved procedures, the standards are reviewed and re-approved every five years.

ANSI / SPRI RP-14 “Wind Design Standard for Vegetative Roofing Systems” offers a method for designing the wind lift resistance of vegetative roof systems. Growing media, stones, paving stones or combinations thereof provide the ballast or weight required for the vegetative system (s) to withstand wind uplift forces. Thus, this standard helps identify the type of ballast that will withstand buoyancy forces and drainage options. This standard was last approved as an ANSI standard in 2016.
