While much of Tesla’s business was flat from last quarter due to the global pandemic, we learned that Tesla tripled the number of rooftop solar installations in Q2 20 compared to Q1 20. The improvement in installations shows that Tesla has continued to produce solar roof systems at Giga Buffalo in New York, and most importantly for ramping up installations of solar roof systems.
Many of these systems were likely approved in the first quarter, when regulators were still in full swing and before many regulators closed or were badly affected by the coronavirus. Going forward, we expect Tesla’s solar systems for traditional panels and solar roofing products to decline as regulators address the self-inflicted long tail of coronavirus infections in the United States.
The Tesla solar roof opens up a new market for Tesla with a new aesthetic appeal for many buyers, new builders, and homeowners looking to put a new roof on their home. All of this adds to Tesla’s existing solar business. The more opportunities Tesla offers to bring solar into the market, the better.
The Tesla solar roof is also unique in that it looks the same or better than a traditional roof while also having a longer lifespan. This factor will certainly be an asset for many customers who did not want panels to be screwed to their roof, but rather could be influenced by an almost invisible solar roof system.
Use my reference code (https://ts.la/kyle623) to do the numbers yourself on a Tesla Solar Roof, Solar, or Powerwall in about two minutes and you can save $ 100. Tesla is just one of many solar providers, so don’t go with Tesla just because I did. Remember, before making what I believed to be the best decision for my family, I compared offers from Sunrun, Sun Power, sonnen, and Tesla, and recommend that you do the same.
