At the NASCAR Throwback Weekend at Darlington Raceway, Ryan Vargas will honor a driver he was a fan of, NASCAR Hall of Fame driver Mark Martin.

Vargas will drive the # 6 Monarch Roofing Chevrolet Camaro SS at Steakhouse Elite 200. The Monarch Roofing Chevrolet is similar to the Valvoline Ford Thunderbird driven by Martin in 1994. During his dominant 1994 season, the native AR of Batesville, AR finished second on the NASCAR Cup Series points table. The opportunity to honor Mark ‘The Kid’ Martin was a heavenly match for ‘The Rhino’.

“I am delighted to be welcoming Monarch Roofing to the sport in a big way by representing them in our Mark Martin fallback scheme in Darlington,” admitted Vargas. “Monarch does everything in the umbrella industry and is always looking to grow. I am proud to name many fans and companies on the track.

“When I grew up, I was a huge Mark Martin fan. So it’s a great honor to have the chance to bring this iconic color scheme back to life. I am grateful to Monarch Roofing for allowing our team to do this on their first race. “

Vargas made a career start in the NASCAR Xfinity Series in Darlington last season. He ran in the top 20 on “The Track Too Tough to Tame” until he hit oil on the track along with several others. As a result, it slipped into the outer wall. The damage to his JD Motorsports with Gary Keller machine made Vargas’ Jimmie Johnson relapse to 25th place in the running order.

Monarch Roofing makes its debut this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway with Vargas’ car. The company becomes associate sponsor of its Chevrolet in the Ag-Pro 300.

“Ryan has a lot of heart and passion for what he does,” said Rob Clemons, GM, Monarch Roofing. “It is incredible to see how much dedication he devotes to this sport and its goals. The values Ryan presents are in line with those we believe in at Monarch, which made it easy for us to support him and his team. “

The La Mirada native is the only full-time rookie of the year candidate to have competed in every race in the Xfinity Series this season. Mechanical problems plagued the NASCAR Drive for Diversity and the NASCAR Next-Alumni rookie campaign. The season opener at Daytona International Speedway marks Vargas’ best position so far, 18th this season.

Vargas is third in rookie points, 67 behind leader Ty Gibbs. He is 59 points behind Josh Berry. In the overall standings, Vargas is 10 points outside the top 30 and 107 points behind the playoff cutoff. The 20-year-old probably needs a win to secure a playoff bid.

“We are so proud to sponsor Ryan and JD Motorsports in honoring Mark Martin in Darlington for Throwback Weekend in his rookie year as full-time NASCAR drivers and having the opportunity to meet with the Team of 6 in Talladega to drive, “explained Monarch Roofing Operations / PR Manager Mady Finley. “We are very excited to start this partnership and see Ryan grow as a driver this season.”

In 19 career starts in the Xfinity series, Vargas achieved a top 10 finish at Texas Motor Speedway last fall.
