Warning as roofing company tries to scam Beckenham residents

A “very suspicious” holding company is reportedly operating in the Beckenham area, charging residents tens of thousands of pounds for minimal repairs.

Bromley Council has issued a warning following reports in the past few days from at least two residents who responded to either a flyer advertisement or a cold phone call.

Residents, who are not named, were asked for a total of £ 60,000 where little work was required.

Trade standards officials were on hand to interview four suspected traders in collaboration with police.

While the investigation continues, the address of the specified company name Surefix Roofing & Construction in North London is suspected to be incorrect.

Trading Standards is asking for information that may be of use in the ongoing investigation.

Councilor Angela Page, Executive Council for Public Protection and Enforcement and SCAMbassador, said, “Thank you to the thoughtful residents who contacted our Trading Standards team to bring this to our attention.

“As we know that older residents in particular are being attacked because they are seen as more vulnerable, please speak to older friends or family members to raise their awareness.

“It is deeply troubling to people who unwittingly have often unwittingly paid a rogue dealer large sums of money for work that is not needed or overdone.

“Be very suspicious of anyone you don’t know, especially if they just knock or send a flyer through your door. Make checks and compare the prices. ”

Trade norms advise residents not to bother with doorsteps or contact vendors through the leaflets delivered without thorough research.
