HICKORY NC – Hickory police arrested a Connelly Springs woman on drug offenses early Tuesday morning after receiving a tip from the Newton Police Department.

Elaynia Victoria Huffman, 30, of 2470 Raintree Street, has been charged with negligent misdemeanors of possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A Newton Police Department officer contacted the Hickory Police Department after Sabe Buzbee was arrested at a traffic stop on Monday, Hickory Police Department Investigator Kim Craig said.

Buzbee told police he was staying at the Red Roof Inn in Hickory with a few other people. The Newton officer suspected that the motel may have been involved in drug activity and stolen property based on information provided by Buzbee.

Hickory police went to the motel at 1184 Lenoir Rhyne Boulevard and found Huffman and another man in room 234. Drug paraphernalia was clearly visible in the room, Craig said.

The officers were given permission to search the room and found about a gram of methamphetamine, a small amount of marijuana and numerous drug paraphernalia. It was found that the drugs and paraphernalia belong to Huffman.

The man in the room was not charged.
